Francis Samuel Drake collection

Scope and Contents

Much of the business portion concerns the compilation and publication of his "A Dictionary of American Biography". In addition, there are notes and correspondence from Drake's work on the Boston Tea Party, and the originial membership of the Massachsuetts Society of the Cincinnati. Gilbert Thomas Swan papers

Abstract

Gilbert Thomas Swan of Glasgow, Scotland was stationed in Gibraltar as a member of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War I. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1928 and settled in New Jersey.

This collection contains documents and photographs relating to the military service of Gilbert T. Swan as well as fourteen literary manuscripts (fiction and non-fiction), four poems, drafts, and notes written by Swan.

A genealogical study of the residence of Swan's Island, Maine, 1623-1978, including genealogical notes on 154 families, bibliographic file, correspondence, and transcriptions. These transcriptions are of the vital records for the town and a card file of cemetery inscriptions from Harbor Island, Hock Head, Irish Point - Seal Cove, Stockbridge Hill, Old North, and Atlantic burial grounds.
