George Sydney Horace Lee Washington papers
Scope and Contents
The Sydney H. L. Washington papers consist of manuscript and typescript letters and notes written between 1928 and 1951, pertaining principally to Washington and Lee genealogies. Included in the collection are several manuscript and typescript copies of Washington’s works, generally incomplete. Private papers, both personal and financial correspondence, 1917-1951, are also included in this collection, as is a series of family photographs, negatives, and printers' blocks.

Biographical Note
Sydney Horace Lee Washington (1909- 1988) was born at Liverpool, England. A United States citizen and the son of Horace Lee Washington, United States diplomat, Sydney Washington attended college in America. He made a career of genealogical research here, most of which was of his own ancestors, the Washington and Lee families of Virginia. In addition, Washington wrote genealogical articles. Some of his works were published in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register. For some time, Washington published his own bulletin, The Ancestor. Washington returned to England in the 1950s.
