Abstract

This collection contains estate papers, correspondence, business ledgers, receipts, newspaper clippings, photographs, and various other personal documents concerning or created by the Conklin and Tindall families. Also represented in the collection is the Havens family. Many represented within the collection are associated with Shelter Island, New York.

Abstract Deweese Ware DeWitt (1889-1985) was a graduate of Burdett College (Boston, Mass.) who established the DeWitt Grocery Company of Brattleboro, Vermont, in 1889.The collection contains original documents, ephemera, photographs, genealogical material, and newspaper clippings. The collection concerns the family of Jane Hutchinson (Burkett) Wiley (1859-1934) and Lyman Augustus Wiley (1857-1930) of Hartford, Conn. and Chicago, Ill.

The collection includes family charts, a pocket diary belonging to Jane’s mother Emily Woodford (Hart) Burkett (1822-1898), and photographs with tintypes, cartes-de-visite and cabinet cards, Jane’s family scrapbook, as well as some ephemera.
