Scope and Contents
Scrapbook containing a collection of correspondence, certificates, memorabilia and newspaper clippings concerning Rev. Joshua Vaughan Himes compiled by Joshua's son William Lloyd Himes. The ledger originally had 332 pages but only 174 remain. Records include documents certifying that Himes is a member in good standing with the Church of Christ at New Bedford (1824) and the Christian Church of New Bedford (1826); documents certifying that Himes was an accredited minister of the Advent Conference of Massachusetts (1834), Illinois (1864), Michigan (1877), and Dakota (1881); letters of recommendation; passport (1844); original pages from several Bible records for the Helme, Vaughan, Himes families; Adventist Creed and Covenant; and a printed pamphlet called Advent Tracts No I Boston Address of the Tabernacle Committee (1843). Several of the letters kept in the scrapbook were written by Robert H. Clarkson and J.A. Gilfillan.
