Biography
Caleb Cook, Junior, was baptized 21 January 1798 in Salem, Massachusetts, aged 4 months, and died 19 March 1837 in Pulo Penang, Prince of Wales Island, aged 39 years. Cook, a respected sea captain of Salem, unfortunately arrived at an Indonesian island shortly after the local maharajah had been cheated by another Salem captain. He refused to pay an extortionate rate for spices, was put into a cage, and although released some weeks later, died of the ill-effects.
