Sub-group II. Church papers
Scope and Contents
The church papers generally document Ivory Hovey’s relations with his congregations. Although scattered, there is interesting correspondence, ecclesiastical council decisions, and vital records. The latter, Hovey’s notations of marriages and baptisms performed by him at Manomet, cover the period between 1775 and 1803. Other church papers include selected records and registers of First Congregational churches in Mattapoisett and New Bedford, Mass.; Second Congregational Church in Plymouth; and the United Church of Christ, Little Compton, R.I.
